How To Launch A Magento Go Online Store?

In this article we will look at the final steps of setting up a Magento Go store, i.e. adding products and launching the store. At this point you should have already registered your online store at Magento Go and choose a theme for your store with optional customization. If you do not know how to do it all, check our article The Easiest Way to Set Up a Magento Store.

Adding Products to your store

It is time to add some products to your store! From the quick start wizard panel choose the Products menu and click on Create New Products. At the next step you will be asked if you want to set up Attribute Set for the products or use Complex Product Types. You can leave the Attribute Set as default. Since you are just adding regular products to your shop do not select Complex Product Types – this option is for adding grouped products, gift cards etc.

Product description

Add the next step you will be asked to provide the name and description of your product. To write the product description use the WYSIWYG Editor – a text editor, which allows you to use popular formatting options (italics, bold etc.). You can also write the product description in html directly in the description box. You should also check the additional product options, such as Status, where you can choose whether your product is in stock or not and Visibility, which allows you to choose whether the product will be visible in both catalog and search bar or only in one of these two. Once you are done, click on Save and Continue Edit button.

Prices and Images

You can add prices and images to your products by clicking on Prices and Images tabs in the menu. In the Prices tab fill in all required fields, that includes also applicable tax class. When you are done, click on Save and Continue Edit button.

Meta Information

Meta information is extremely important for SEO – search engine optimization. If you do not know how to use keywords to increase your website’s visibility in search engines, add simple, generic description of the products – it will make your products easier to find for your customers.  Click on the Save button when you are done.

Payment and Shipping

Go back to Start My Store menu to set up Payment and Shipping options. This is also a relatively simple thing to do, just follow the directions provided by the quick start wizard.

Launching the store

When you are done, it is time to finally launch your first store! Go back to Get Going menu in the quick start wizard, select Launch Your Store and click on the Go button in the next step. Your store is now up and running! As you can see, setting up a basic Magento Go store is simple, however there is a huge difference between a basic online store and a fully developed shopping cart. Once you start growing your business help of a Magento web developer will be necessary in order to add more complex features to your store and to ensure that the online store is fully functional and secure.
