How To Breathe New Life Into Your Home

Like clothes, the interior of a home can go out of style. You may find that your living room is devoid of colour, centred on the theme of dull and lifeless. Your dining room lacks inspiration and “pizzazz” with weathered floor boards and bland wall paper. If this is the case and you are embarrassed about bringing friends round for a sophisticated evening, then you may need to revamp your home to give it a new lease of life. In most cases, it is not an easy task, with the immense variety of options out there, it can be a little overwhelming. To help with this heavy task, which will be worth the trouble, we’ve compiled a short list of tips to help in reinventing your home.

A clean space is a happy place

One of the main places to start when giving your home a makeover is by giving it a good tidy. Over a period of time, we tend to accumulate piles of stuff that can make rooms feel crowded and cluttered. Remove any unwanted items by either taking them down to the charity shop, or selling them on eBay. Doing so will give your living space a lot more room and allow you to expand or use the newly emptied space for furniture.

Lighten up!

The atmosphere of a room can change greatly just by adding a bit of light. Use mirrored surfaces to reflect light around the room, as they can create the illusion of space and style. Using table lamps can enhance this effect. Window dressing can have a beneficial force on a room, you might want to swap your old curtains for window blinds. Not only are these easy to maintain and clean, but depending on the style, you can control the amount of light that enters the room. Some suggestions for blinds could be Venetian, Roman or roller blinds. Manufacturers can provide bespoke blinds to suit any of your interior needs.

Make a first impression

What is one of the first things someone will see when arriving at your home? The front door. Any door in the house is the first port of entry into any room and the front door is what will give visitors a first impression of your home when arriving, so you want it to look its best. Try and jazz up the door knocker by making it a little more interesting, give the door a new lick of paint, perhaps a nice bright colour to give an indication that your home is a warm and inviting place.

Work with colours

Like lighting, colours can have a great effect on a room. Take a look at your furnishings and furniture and aim to stick to one “colour family”, when deciding to repaint a room, which consist of warm colours (red, orange, yellow) and cool colours (blue, green, purple). Avoid crossing colour families as this can jar the atmosphere of the room, so if your furniture is red, looking at warmer tones and colours of paint, rugs or furnishings.

The above list is only a brief indication of the important aspects of revamping your home. These can help achieve the effect of more space and a warmer (or cooler) atmosphere. Other suggestions to revamp your home would be to look at swapping your furniture for more classical pieces, adding wall patterns or being creative with wallpaper. In any event, following these tips can start helping you breathe new life into your home.
